Conversation about summer jobs

Daniel: Have you got a summer job organized?

Jadie: Well, I’ve applied for an internship at IBM in Boston. Last year I worked at a summer camp, as a tennis coach, and I’d really like to go back to the US. How about you?

Daniel: I’ve been offered a live-in job as a kitchen assistant in Newquay, but I'll have to work long hours and you don't get tips like you do if you're waiting. So I’m still looking. I did a work placement last year at my uncle's company and he said they'd love to have me back there but the work was dull - a desk job with loads of admin. I fancy being a seasonal farm worker, maybe a hop-picker, where you get your board and lodging. When will you hear from IBM?

Jadie: I sent the application form off about three weeks ago and the, advert said that the interviews would be held in London at the end of the month. If I don't get it, I think I’ll try to get a job as a holiday rep.

Daniel: Do you speak any languages?

Jadie: No, but I’ve got a lot of relevant experience and I could get a very good reference from my summer camp team-leader. He said I’ve got great interpersonal skills.

Daniel: Have you considered doing voluntary work?

Jadie: What do you me an, working in a charity shop?

Daniel: No - something a lot more active than that, like working in a national park. You get to meet people who are interested in conservation, and it would look good on your CV.

Jadie: But it doesn't look so good on your bank statement. I want something that's going to pay at least the minimum wage!
